At least two state parks in southeast Iowa still have camping sites with electricity for the upcoming 4th of July holiday. The two state parks are Lake Keomah in Mahaska County and Honey Creek Resort state park in Appanoose County. In addition, DNR officials say most other state parks have electric site available on the weekend before the 4th.

Kevin Szcodronski Chief of State Parks says “we weren’t sure how the campgrounds would shape up when the holiday felt during the week. He says it appears July 4th through the weekend will be busy but there is plenty an opportunity to go camping before the holiday.

If campers are trying a new park they should log onto www.iowadnr.gov/h2o for a list of things to do in the area. Campers who create an account and log their activities are automatically entered into a drawing for prizes.

Szcodronski says “hopefully mother nature will cooperate and we will have good weather”.
