Fairfield Police respond to general threats at Fairfield High School

Officers of the Fairfield Police Department (FPD) were involved with an investigation at the Fairfield High School. Fairfield High School (FHS) staff contacted FPD at approximately 8:30 AM, in reference to possible general threats made over the previous weekend. Fairfield Community School District personnel and FPD officers have attended training and meetings together to improve student safety and communication between the two agencies. Ottumwa man found guilty of murder

(Ottumwa)— It took a Wapello County District court jury just a couple of hours to find an Ottumwa man………Bobby Snow guilty of Second degree murder. Snow was arrested on the charge in May of 2011 following the death of another Ottumwa man James McElroy. Snow could be sentenced up to 50 years in prison.  Snow remains in the Wapello County Jail.

Jefferson County authorities face hostile situation

UPDATED (Fairfield)—There was a developing situation in Fairfield this morning. Officials from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department say officers were called to a campus in Vedic City this morning to help with an unruly person when the situation became tense.  A number of students reported turned hostile and forced Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies to call for back up help from Fairfield Police, the Wapello County Sheriff’s Department and the Iowa State Patrol. Burlington man arrested on numerous charges

(Mt. Pleasant)—  A 24 year old southeast Iowa man is in custody following his arrest Sunday in Henry County. Officials from the Henry County Sheriff’s Department say 24 year old Jeffrey Carpenter of Burlington was pulled over Sunday afternoon about 3:45 p.m.  After he was observed speeding.  Carpenter was charged with driving under suspension and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Iowa Wesleyan College’s J. Raymond Chadwick Library has been selected as a recipient of the Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Foundation’s 50th Anniversary Award. School Crossing guard escapes serious injuries

(Ottumwa)— An elementary student in Ottumwa escaped injury following an accident Thursday morning at the intersection of Traxler and Mary Street. Keota man injured in crash

(Sigourney)— One person was injured following a single vehicle crash Tuesday in Keokuk County. The Iowa State Patrol says a car driven by 24 year old Trevor Morse of Keota was eastbound on highway 1 at a high rate of speed when he lost control and entered a south side ditch and went over a farm drive. City Council approves two way traffic plan

(Ottumwa)— The Ottumwa City Council last night gave it’s approval to converting traffic on Main Street and 2nd Street in the downtown area from Jefferson Street to Kitterman Avenue.
