On February 3, 2014 the Ottumwa Police Department investigated a complaint involving cruelty to animals. As the result of the investigation, a deceased female Boxer was seized. Following a necropsy by a veterinarian the cause of death was determined to be most likely long term starvation. On February 5, 2014, Amber Dawn Ramos age 29, and Andy Michael Ramos age 30 both with an address of 2525 E. Main Street Ottumwa were arrested and charged with Cruelty to Animals and Confining Animals (Simple Misdemeanors). Both arrestees were released from jail on $300 bond.

(Mediapolis)— A 51 year old southeast Iowa man was killed early Saturday morning following a single vehicle crash on highway 61 at the intersection of Memorial Park Road. The Des Moines Sheriff’s Department says the car was driven by 46 year old Dan Allen Miller of Mediapolis. Killed in crash was Michael Butler of Mediapolis. Injured was Miller who was transported to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. He is reported in critical condition. The crash remains under investigation.
