Pella teacher faces charges

A former Pella high school teacher and assistant band director has been charged in a sexual exploitation case. 31 year old Benjamin Thompson no longer works at Pella Community high school where he was an assistant band director for three years.  Thompson taught and tutored a student who graduated last May from the school. Three people were injured following a two vehicle crash Wednesday evening at the intersection of highway 63 and 180th Street north of Bloomfield. McDanel trial delayed

A high profile Ottumwa murder trial has been delayed once again. The first degree murder trial of Dustin McDanel is not expected to begin until December 1st in Wapello County district court. McDanel is charged in connection with a dispute he had with another man that resulted in a death.  Following the incident McDanel fled the area and was eventually found in Missouri. McDanel was scheduled to go on trial next month.  He remains in the Wapello County jail.
