The Ottumwa High softball team opened the 2013 in a style befitting its Class 5A #2 ranking, posting blowout wins in its first four games. The Bulldogs opened the season at Fort Madison on Thursday, and took advantage of some Bloodhound defensive miscues to win both games of the doubleheader by scores of 10-0 and 12-1. Friday night, OHS traveled to Mount Pleasant and repeated the trick, rolling over the Panthers by scores of 12-0 and 17-0.
The day before the season opener, Ottumwa was ranked second in the initial IGHSAU Class 5A rankings. Pleasant Valley opened the season in the top spot, with Muscatine, Ankeny and Waukee rounding out the top five. The Bulldogs will face both Pleasant Valley and Waukee on June 21st as part of the 40-year reunion tournament honoring head coach Frank Huston, and will face Ankeny on July 6th as part of the Ottumwa Classic.
OHS returns to action on Friday, May 31st at Huston Field for the home opener, when they take on Marshalltown in a doubleheader. The games will be broadcast on 1240 KBIZ.
