(Ottumwa)— In most cases school classes are cancelled due to weather such as winter storms.

There now appears to be a possibility that classes in Ottumwa schools could be affected by a strike between Southern Iowa Transit and the Teamsters union local 238.

Officials from the Teamsters say negotiations between the local and Southern Iowa Transit are not going well.

Jon Thomas Local 238 Agent says the next bargaining session between the parties is set for Wednesday September 18th, but if bargaining continues on its current trend, a disruption of bus service is possible and the district should be aware of this.

Thomas also says the union has filed several unfair practices against the company and the union questions its desire to bargain in good faith.

Southern Iowa Transit has a contract with the Ottumwa Community School District to provide transportation service.
