The Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont volleyball team advanced to the state semifinals for the first time ever on Wednesday, knocking off #4 Council Bluffs St. Albert 3-1. The #6 Rockets improved to 35-5 on the season.
E-B-F started out strong, taking the first two games 25-20 and 25-22. St. Albert rallied from a late deficit in game three to earn a 27-25 win and force a fourth game, but they ran out of steam as the Rockets won 25-16 to advance in dominating fashion.
Sophomore Karlie Taylor led Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont with 33 kills and added 16 digs. Senior Tasha Alexander also stepped up on the big stage, recording 17 kills and a team-high 24 digs.
Standing in the way of a trip to the championship match for E-B-F will be #1 Dike-New Hartford. The #1 Wolverines advanced to the semifinals with a sweep over Iowa City Regina.
Thursday’s semifinal match between Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and Dike-New Hartford begins at 4:00 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
