A state championship wasn’t to be this season for the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont volleyball team. The #6 Rockets had their run halted in the state semifinals, falling 3-0 on Thursday to #1 Dike-New Hartford.
Taking advantage of a taller front line, Dike-New Hartford jumped out to a big early lead in game one, and although EBF briefly closed the gap, the Wolverines pulled away to a 25-14 win. Game two was much closer, as the Rockets flirted with the lead before falling 25-19. In game three, Dike-New Hartford pulled away early to end the match with a 25-12 margin.
Karlie Taylor paced EBF with ten kills and added seven digs. Playing in her final match, senior Tasha Alexander added six kills and nine assists.
Despite the loss, the Rockets end the most successful season in school history with a 35-6 record. EBF’s appearance in the state tournament was just the second ever for the Rockets, and their quarterfinal win over Council Bluffs St. Albert on Wednesday was their first-ever win at state.
