(Ottumwa)— A 12 year old student from Evans Middle School is facing drug charges.

The Ottumwa Courier reports, today, the student who has not been identified was reportedly in possession in drug paraphernalia on school property.

The arresting officer charged the student with possession of drug paraphernalia and prohibited acts.

Evans Middle School principal Dave Harper says the student did not have actual drugs in his possession, but said that the items for drug use appeared to have enough residue from marijuana that the student was charged with the additional crime.

Harper says it appears the student made a poor choice by showing off a bong to other students.
