(Des Moines)—  State Representative Mary Gaskill of Ottumwa is among lawmakers in Des Moines to support a plan to grow Iowa’s skilled workforce while keeping tuition at Indian Hills Community College and state universities affordable for Iowa families.

Gaskill says “the agreement reached is good news for Indian Hills and students in Ottumwa who are going to continue their education after high school.  She says “if we are going to build a strong middle class in Iowa, workers and students need access to affordable  education and training at places like Indian Hills.

Under the plan, Indian Hills would receive an additional $927,000 next year to keep tuition affordable.  Some students would also quality for loans or grants through a new Iowa $66-million dollar workforce training fund.  The lplan will also keep tuition affordable at Iowa’s three public universities.
