Jerry Edward Kiger, 79, of Douds died Tuesday September 10, 2013 at Sunnybrook Living Care Center, Fairfield.  He was born November 20, 1933 in New Martinsville, West Virginia to Orville and Theo Adline Covert Kiger and married Bessie “Peggy” Gerrard.

Jerry was a 1951 graduate of New Martinsville High School, attended West Virginia University and served in the U.S. Navy. He retired as a boilermaker and had been a member of Boilermaker Local 199 in Jacksonville, FL, and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the John Hyson Reneker Post # 494 American Legion, both of Douds.  Jerry enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid archery hunter.

Surviving are his wife of 22 years, a daughter, Kelli Garland (David) of Millersville, MD, a step-daughter, Terri Hyre (Steve) of Philippi, WV, 3 grandsons, Eric Garland (Annalee) of Columbia, MD, Brian Garland of  Millersville, MD, and Justin Hyre of Huntington, WV and 2 great-grandsons, Leif and Silas Garland of Columbia, MD.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Josh Hyre.

The body has been cremated, no local services are planned.  Burial of cremains will be in West Virginia at a later date.  Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua assisted the family.
