(Ottumwa)— As first reported by KBIZ news, Ottumwa resident Tom Lazio announced this morning he is a candidate for Mayor. He is the first candidate to announce his candidacy and is expected to run against incumbent Mayor Frank Flanders.

Lazio told reporters this morning he wants to offer the citizens a positive and forward looking leadership. Together he says “we can make Ottumwa a place where people will want to raise a family and where businesses can grow.

In order to accomplish this new direction, he says “we need to help our current businesses retain their jobs and find new businesses that will add jobs to our community. We have to re-establish the pride and commitment to our community as Ottumwa is a great place to live and work”.

Lazio who has been very active in the community told those at a news conference he will work with the city council and city staff to make the best decisions based on data, a priority list and importance to the city’s smooth functioning. In addition he said he will work closely with Ottumwa Economic Development Corporation and the Chamber of Commerce to expand our tax base.
