Ottumwa — Ottumwa-native Sarah Horgen, education and outreach coordinator for the University of Iowa Museum of Natural History, will be the speaker at the annual Borlaug Fall Seminar at Indian Hills Community College on Tuesday, Oct. 15. She will speak at 7 p.m. in room five of the Rural Health Education Center on the college’s Ottumwa campus.
Since 2012, Horgen has been assisting with coordination of an excavation for mammoth bones in Mahaska County where, so far, evidence of at least three separate wooly mammoths has been unearthed. The Mahaska County dig will be the topic of her talk. Horgen has also been involved with the ongoing Tarkio Valley Sloth Project in southwest Iowa.
Horgen’s presentation is free and open to the public. Her visit is sponsored by the Indian Hills Community College Science Club and the college’s Department of Arts and Sciences.
