On Sunday, December 22, 2013, at approximately 5:05 a.m., members of the Fairfield Police Department attempted to stop 37 year old Shawn Howard at Washington and Main Street in regard to the recent car burglaries and on an outstanding arrest warrant. Howard fled on foot and was captured in the 100 block of east Broadway.
Officers found physical evidence on his person tying Howard to five recent car burglaries and two residential burglaries. Members of the Fairfield Police Department are in the process of contacting the victim of these crimes to obtain statements and identify property. Officers are continuing the investigation and hopefully additional property will be recovered.
Shawn Howard 907 E. Broadway Avenue Fairfield, Iowa has been arrested on an outstanding warrant for Domestic Abuse – 3rd or subsequent, class D felony punishable up to 5 years in prison. In addition, Howard was charged with On-Going Criminal Conduct, class B felony punishable up to 25 years in prison, two counts (2) Burglary 2nd Degree, class C felony punishable up to 10 years in prison, five (5) counts Burglary 3rd Degree, Aggravated Misdemeanor punishable up to 2 years in prison, Possession of a Controlled substance (Marijuana)3rd or subsequent, Aggravated Misdemeanor punishable up to 2 years in prison, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Simple misdemeanor punishable up to 30 days in jail and up to $625.00 fine, and Interference With Official Acts, Simple misdemeanor punishable up to 30 days in jail and up to $625.00 fine.
Criminal charges is only an allegation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and if found guilty in a court of law.
