On July 10, 2013 at approximately 11:54 pm the Ottumwa Police Department received a report of a vehicle being stolen in the 300 block of Burrhus Street in Ottumwa. The vehicle was described as a black and silver 1988 Ford Bronco.
At approximately 12:03am, July 11, 2013, an Ottumwa Police Officer observed the vehicle being driven at the intersection of Church and Myrtle Streets. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle at which time the vehicle fled southbound on Church Street. At that time the attempted traffic stop was discontinued.
A short time later the officer located the vehicle after it had been involved in an accident at 314 Chester Avenue. The vehicle had failed to negotiate a curve in the road, drove over the curb and ran into the house located at that address. The driver of the vehicle had fled on foot.
A short time later, Officers arrested Greg Kyle Ableman, age 22, at his residence located at 524 Burrhus Street in Ottumwa. Ableman was then transported to the Wapello County Jail where he was arrested for Theft 2nd – MV, Felony Eluding, OWI 2nd, Leaving the Scene of a PI Accident, Driving Under Suspension, Illegal Possession of a Prescription Drug, No SR-22 Insurance, and Failure to Obey a Stop Sign.
Ableman is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on $10,000 bond.
