(Ottumwa)— New motion have been filed by attorneys defending Seth Techel who is charged with murdering his pregnant wife Lisa over a year ago at the couple’s rural home in Agency.
The latest motions filed by Ottumwa lawyer Steve Gardner challenges the choice of Henry County as the locate of Techel’s retrial set for August. Gardner claims that moving the retrial to Henry County is an inappropriate choice, accusing prosecutors of forum shopping in asking for the retrial in Mt. Pleasant. Gardner claims prejudice by the judge overseeing the case and inappropriate use of social media by state witnesses.
The retrial is set for August 12th. Techel remains in the Monroe County Jail on a 75-thousand dollar bond.
