On November 19, 2013, at approximately 8: 41 p.m., members of the Fairfield Police Department initiated a traffic stop in the 600 block of Pleasant Plain Road.  The Fairfield Police Department K9 alerted on the vehicle and significant amount marijuana was seized.  Members of the Police Department obtained search warrants for a motorhome parked on the road leading to Fairfield Water Department loading dock and 604 Royal Oakes Fairfield, Iowa.

All together approximately 100 pounds of marijuana was seized and over 5 grams of methamphetamine.  Additional items will be sent to the Division of Criminal Investigations laboratory for testing.

Police arrested 34 year old Joel Bernards and his 25 year of wife, Emily Bernards.  Their current address is listed as 14395 Spruce Grove Rd, Lower Lake, California.  Both have been charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver more than 5 grams of methamphetamine within 1000 feet of a park, class B Felony punishable up to 25 years in prison, Conspiracy to Deliver more than 5 grams of methamphetamine within 1000 feet of a park, class B Felony punishable up to 25 years in prison, Possession with Intent to Deliver less than 50 kilograms of marijuana, class D Felony punishable up to 5 years in prison, Conspiracy to Deliver less than 50 kilograms of marijuana, class D Felony punishable up to 5 years in prison, No Drug Tax Stamp, class D Felony punishable up to 5 years in prison, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, simple misdemeanor punishable up to 30 days in jail and up to $625.00.

The investigation is still on-going and may lead to additional arrests and charges being filed.

A criminal charges is only an allegation and the defendants are presumed innocent until and if found guilty in a court of law.
