(Appanoose County)— A 63 year old Centerville man was killed Friday evening following a motorcycle crash a quarter of a mile south of  if the intersection of county road J29 and highway 5 in Appanoose county.

The Iowa state Patrol says Donald Lee Bates was southbound on highway 5 when the motorcycle he was driving left the road and went onto the shoulder.  Bates then lost control of the motorcycle causing it to flipped onto it’s side, then slid down the roadway coming to rest in the southbound lane.  Bates was thrown from the motorcycle.  Troopers say Bates was not wearing a helmet.  The crash remains under investigation.

One person was injured Friday morning on highway 34 in Henry County on the Skunk River Bridge.

The Iowa State Patrol says a vehicle driven by 21 year old Robert C. Rook of Lockridge, Iowa was westbound on highway 34 when a tire blow caused mechanical failure.  Troopers say Rook lost control of the vehicle and entered the median where it struck an embankment before coming to rest on the east bank of the skunk River.

Rook was taken to the Henry County Hospital in Mt. Pleasant for treatment of injuries.

Rook was charged with no drivers license and failure to have insurance.
