(Ottumwa)— A 27 year old Ottumwa man Charles J. Zwer charged in connection with a hatchet attack in Ottumwa will spend ten years in prison.

Zwer was charged in connection with an attack that occurred in Ottumwa almost one year ago. On July 22nd, the Ottumwa Police Department received a report of a disturbance at Zwer’s home at 219 North Marion. Upon their arrival police found three people who had been attacked with a hatchet.

Zwer pleaded guilty to willful injury causing serious injury and assault while participating in a felony. A charge of attempted murder, two willful injury charges and a charge of going armed with intent were all dismissed.

Zwer was sentenced to ten years in prison for the willful injury charge and a five year prison term for the assault charge.
