Trial Set for Ottumwa Shootout Suspects

Two men who allegedly exchanged fire with law enforcement near Liberty Elementary in Ottumwa will go to trial in July.

Michael Bibby (left) and Dalton Cook (right) face multiple attempted murder charges for their alleged role in a shootout with authorities in August 2018. A judge has decided the two will be tried simultaneously on July 21st.

Court documents say Bibby, Cook, Tiffany McNeal, and Roy White attempted to rob a house in Ottumwa’s south side. A man was shot in the botched attempt. Bibby, Cook, and White fled on foot and eventually encountered law enforcement. White was killed in the gunfight.

McNeal drove the men to the house. She has since pleaded guilty for her role in the crime.

Bibby and Cook have been charged with 10 counts of attempted murder. Each charge carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.
